This morning we went to the notaris to sign the first papers for the sale of the house, where we met the new owner-to-be. She's a Norwegian woman, who speaks excellent (American-accented) English, with two teenage children, so she really likes the three largish bedroom. She has been looking at houses for quite a while, and is looking forward to moving at last. She now has three days to change her mind, but says she won't. We were surprised when the closing date was officially set for Monday, 6 October, since we didn't expect the date to be finalized for another week or so. That day we'll have a walk-through at the house and then go to the notaris, along with an official translator, for the actual signing. This is all much more formal and complex than it was when we bought this house.
After the notaris, we stopped by for tea with a friend and then took the stained glass lamp that hung over the dining table to be repaired. (One of the bits of glass on the edge got broken somehow, sometime.)
Back home, we're busy getting seriously started packing, although progress seems slow. Ed took another load of stuff from the shed to the dump. We've been working at clearing out for a couple of months now, but there's seems always to be something else that needs special handling.
