Friday was to have been the day when the sale was committed. But, no. The house inspection showed €8200 in repairs required. Our real estate agent says this is a normal amount for a house of this age, and given that most of the issues (e.g., replacing the window in the attic roof) is very visible and accounted for in the offering price, it is normal that this is not a problem with the sale. But, the buyer (or her real estate agent) asked for us to lower the price to cover most of that amount. Our agent was very angry at this and wanted us to say No. Period. But it realizes we really want to sell and get it done with, so we offered €2500 off the selling price. Unfortunately our buyer was not to be reached Friday afternoon so this couldn't be resolved. We've agreed to an extension till Monday. Our agent does think our offer will be accepted, based on the reaction of the other agent. We hope so.

Gloomy Friday
No, the movers didn't show up with the boxes and wrapping paper. Actually, we expect now that we don't really need the boxes (we have been proceeding to pack books into the middle-sized that are too heavy when completely filled with books), but the wrapping paper situation is desperate. We finally reached a helpful person at the movers, who said they could deliver more next Friday afternoon, leaving us two days to pack. When we expressed dismay, she scurried around finding a solution, bless her heart, and another moving company will delivery the stuff Monday afternoon. For the weekend packing, we'll have to buy up as much paper as we can find locally.
