Trudging onwards

The water seeping through the living room floor seems to have slowed down -- knock wood -- but rain continues in the forecast. The water percolates up through cracks in the grout, a kind of live-in artesian well. We went to the mairie (city hall) to see about having a ditch or diversion of some kind put in place above the barn, but it seems that the place where this really needs to be is on private property. We'll have to write our barn owner to see if we can convince her.

Unpacking continues. It's nice to see our clothes hanging in the dressing closets, although we don't seem to have a place for our shoes. That's OK right now because we haven't found our shoes yet. The shelving for our records, CDs, and stereo system is in place now -- hooray we can listen to some new music!

The internet/computing situation continues to be difficult. This must be the world's slowest computer, running Windows 98. Researching and buying the replacement parts we need for our real computers is a trial. We have ordered the part for the Mac and are trying to get the PC bit also. Meanwhile, no photos for the blog, no NY Times sudokus, no bills via internet, etc. Even email is a bit trying.

Ah well, the sun shines sometimes and we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Our mama chaffinch continues to sit on her nest through all the storms.
