Lightning strike!

In the night of Thursday to Friday, we had a nice thunderstorm, including a strike of lightning very close by. We got up to discover that the Livebox device connecting to the internet was a Deadbox. And Friday was a holiday. On Saturday we had to go to Angouleme to get a replacement. And an extension cord with a surge protector. After installing the new Livebox, it because clear that the damage was much more extensive than we thought. Our router was gone, as well as the ethernet cards in both computers, one of which was turned off at the time of the strike.

Today is Sunday, no shops are open, and the movers are coming at 8.00 Tuesday morning, so we really don't have time to address this right now. Luckily we have an ancient laptop which we can use for simple connections. Gmail has to be in HTML mode and even that is very low. We'll check email probably only once a day for a while. We wonder if internet banking will work at all. It's going to be a bit silent here for a time.
