A boar in the backyard

A quiet, gray, and rainy week gone by. Clothes drying has definitely shifted to being an inside activity.

Ed's been busy chopping our winter wood to a size that fits in the wood stove. While he was working on the South Forty on Friday, he noticed a strange lump down by the junipers. He went to investigate and found a dead sanglier or boar with its insides eaten out and one ear nibbled. It's not a baby, but maybe a young'un since an adult should be a bit bigger. We've no idea what killed it, but there doesn't seem to be a gunshot wound. We wonder if we'll have to fence our potager to keep animals out?

Friday evening we went to another quiz dinner and came in gloriously last. Ah well, it was fun and we ate well, cheaply.

The beautiful fall before we went to the Netherlands has changed to a gray and wet one. Colorful leaves have dropped from the trees, leaving only the brown ones.

  1. Lovely mushroom picture! The boar looks very small to me. Surely it must be a young one, even if it is beyond being a piglet.
