Off to the States soon

Seems like it's been a frantic week, although it's hard to see much that's been accomplished. Tomorrow we start a journey to the US, so there'll no blogging for a while till we're back home.

The conservatory now has its tiles laid and is waiting for a rainy day for the grouting. We'll pause after this bit of work to see if repairing the broken floor/ceiling is sufficient for keeping the shed below dry. Next summer we'll scrape and paint the odd lot of doors and windows and reinstall them so that at least two sides are sheltered again.

The double-paned window for the bathroom has yet to be installed; that will wait till we return. Meanwhile Ed's put some insulation in north wall before that is closed up again. He's also sealed around the new windows and doors inside and out. We're hoping the new windows help the bedroom warmer in the winter.

Ed spent a couple of hours with his new chainsaw starting to work on cutting the load of firewood into the proper length. It was several hours work to get three quarters of a cubic meter done. We bought four cubic meters, so there's a lot of work to do yet.

We've been to some beginner line dancing classes with a friend on recent Tuesdays. Well, Ed bowed out after the first lesson and played pool with Sally's husband, while Sally and Kaye worked up a sweat. That's hard work! The lessons are held in a bar in a town not too far a way. The teacher is Irish, and most of the dancers are British, but there are a few French people. The advanced students have t-shirts to prove they're part of the Silver Spurs. Kaye doubts she'll get that far. Line dancing seems to be very popular in this corner of France.

Kaye went to another pub quiz, while Ed stayed home nursing a cold. Our team was in the lead for a while, but we folded in the last round and came in fourth. We discovered there's a bi-weekly pub quiz in Confolens on Tuesday evenings, the same night as line dancing. Sally will check this out while we are gone. She wondered if we're better doing the pub quiz for our minds or the line dancing for our bodies?

After a rainy spell, the weather has warmed up again and we've not needed any heating. Beautiful fall sun in the last days.

This afternoon we take Sophie and Pogo to a kennel, the one where Sophie was fostered while she was pregnant and nursing. We know they'll have good care, but it's sad to leave them so soon. Our friend Sally will take us to the train station tomorrow and pick us up when we return.
