Double-panes and conservatory

We now have new double-paned windows, north and south, in our bedroom, plus a double-paned door in the kitchen. The bathroom is on hold while we search for a window that's a better fit. The one we had was too small and would reduce the light quite a bit. All the finishing work still has to be done, so it everything looks a bit of a mess. Like the new terrace door, the one in the kitchen is a single "pane" on either side, so it looks more open and cleaning the glass is much easier.

We seem to have neglected to mention that we're also having the shed by the front porch made watertight. It turns out that the concrete roof of the shed, which is the floor of the conservatory, had a crack. The previous owner put some tar paper over it, which wasn't really helping very much. All the doors and windows that make the walls of the conservatory have been removed and the tar paper stripped off. This revealed the crack in the roof/floor, which was concrete laid on wood slats. That's been sealed with real tar, then a mesh laid, then a layer of concrete. Next week, some freeze-resistant tiles will be put on top of this before we reinstall the doors and windows. (We actually have some extras now, including the old terrace and kitchen doors and two windows.)

When the conservatory floor is finished, we'll empty the shed. Then they'll lay a concrete floor (it's dirt now) and seal the gaps in the walls. This is work is being done by our roofer. He also brought us four cubic meters of wood, which is, unfortunately in one-meter lengths, so Ed will use his new chainsaw to cut it all into 50-centimeter lengths to fit our stove. (The antique  chainsaw Ed found at a vide grenier has already been retired.)

Vanille is our neighbor's dog. Pogo wants to be friends, but she's not very interested.

The weather has turned cold and we've had the fire burning in the kitchen frequently, using wood from our dear, departed poplars. The weather is cold, but clear and beautiful. At night the stars twinkle brightly and the Milky Way is clearly visible.

The FollowSite service has been pretty undependable of late, so Kaye figured out how to add the Feedburner email subscription service. If you add your email, you'll get a message back from them to confirm your subscription, so no one can subscribe for you. If you've subscribed via FollowSite, there's a link in each message where you can go to unsubscribe.

P.S. Pogo found another hedgehog on our evening walk.
