Slow times after the big blow

That was some pretty heavy-duty wind howling in the night. After it had started, Ed thought to close the shutters on the southwest side of the bedroom. Good idea (file for future reference), but not possible. We heard tiles rattling overhead and strange thunks throughout the night. In the morning we found the tar paper blown off the top of the fuel tank, the cover blown off the woodpile, and items from the kitchen porch scattered over the yard. A couple of tiles came crashing down from the roof over the bedroom. These need to be tended to before too long.

The mezzanine is painted red now, and we've agreed to wallpaper two "controversial" walls, maybe with a red and white stripe. Now we just have to agree on the wallpaper.

And the standards are installed for seven sections of the shelving from our Amstelveen living room. Some of you might remember there were eight sections there. We're hoping we can manage enough shelving elsewhere to take up the slack.

With the standards in place we can use this as a working station for finishing about a million of IKEA's Ivar shelves, which we'll use through the rest of the house. We'll also use three sections of the bookshelves from Kaye's woodshop course, with the fourth section probably stored in a dark corner somewhere. (Rare have been the times when we've been able to assemble all four sections of this together. More often it's been two and two, or three and one, which might happen here if we find a place for the odd one.)

Otherwise things are going a bit slowly. Ed came down with the dreaded lurgi at the beginning of last week and kindly shared with Kaye. We're both on the upswing now, knock wood, but not feeling too energetic.
