A late start for the day today, both of us sleeping quite late. We rushed off to the mairie to register and got there five minutes before closing time only to find the door locked. But the very nice woman there (we will have to learn her name at some point) let us in and we have now declared Condadeuil as our résidence principale. It was amazingly simple -- she just crossed out résidence secondaire and wrote in résidence principale. There are definitely some advantages to having European passports!
Monday morning, and the International Herald Tribune arrived in the post, just as it ought. We arranged that change-of-address on the internet and it went very smoothly.
On Sunday, our neighbors had a sack of mail waiting for us, including our absentee ballots! We were worried the address change might not go through properly, so that was a relief.
Ed's tooth was hurting quite a bit last evening, but was a bit better this morning. Knock wood!
We had a phone call this morning, which Kaye simply could not understand. Something happens in Mazerolles on Wednesday, but what on earth is it? Such frustration. Much improvement in language skill is needed soon.
And our phone in Amstelveen has been cut off. We had a letter just before we left that the cut-off date was changed to the 15th, so we were wondering what would happen there. We were thinking of changing the voicemail message to say we were no longer there, but that's now quite apparent.
Lydia remains in the bedroom, even though we're leaving the door open. We'll be happy when she's ready to leave, so we don't have to feed her and clean her litter box in the bedroom. But we won't push her to go while the house is in such disarray. We already know she was bothered by the happenings in Amstelveen. Otherwise she's eating and drinking fairly well, so she may have quite some months left in her.
This morning was rainy, so there is laundry hanging all over the house to dry. This afternoon has turned sunny, so it seems like a good time to take ourselves out for a little walk before dinner.
