L'expert

L'expert (the insurance adjuster) came yesterday. We both forgot he was coming and went out for a walk after lunch. At one point we decided not to make a longer walk and went home. Shortly after that, l'expert arrived. He looked at our damaged heater and the walls and sat down to make his assessment. We'll get half the value of the new heater (which we picked up today), and most of the cost for repairing and repainting the walls and ceiling on the mezzanine level. We should get a first check next week, then when the work is done, we'll send the invoice and get the remainder. The work will actually cost a bit more, but most of it's being paid, so that is a relief.

While we were eating last evening, Lydia showed up with her head covered in cobwebs. We still haven't figured out where she found such a serious bunch of webs. We fell about laughing while she munched away, oblivious.

This afternoon we visited a dépôt-vente (selling second-hand furniture and other goods) to look for a china cabinet sort of thing and a cabinet for towels. We found an old-fashioned china cabinet that we both like and a towel cabinet that would do after a bit of work. We'll probably go back soon and make an offer for the both of them. We were pleased to find somthing we liked for a reasonable price.

The patch on the air mattress seems to be holding. Our new bed arrives next Thursday, hooray!
