Since then we had a spell with thunderstorms that mostly fizzled. Now the weather is normal sort of sunny and warm, but with no rain in sight at all.
Kaye went on a walking tour of La Rochefoucauld, which was very informative, but she neglected to take a camera so we have nothing to show for it.
The kitchen is the focus of activity for this month since we need to get the floor replaced before the new sink counter is delivered in September. Luckily the weather is being very cooperative and we're able to eat all our meals outdoors. At the start of the summer season, long before summer actually appeared, we bought a hexagonal "pergola" for shade. At dinner time this really isn't needed, since the outdoor table is shaded by the house. But during the day it lets you sit outdoors in comfort. Ed cleaned up the little round table that's been serving as a junk repository under the kitchen porch for a couple of years and we use that table under the pergola for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
In the kitchen, here's Ed spreading glue for the tiles in front of the fireplace after he poured a bit of concrete to make the area level and to allow the ceramic tiles to be at the same level as the cork tiles.
The open shelving has been moved to the living room for the duration. (It's amazing how much food-related stuff is stored there.) The peninsula has been disassembled and moved toward the outside door along with the refrigerator. The pantry cabinets (tall narrow ones) are free from the wall and moved toward the kitchen entrance.
In this picture, the chairs at the right are under the peninsula lighting to remind tall people not to walk there. You can see the start of the tiling under the mess of cabinets. The leftmost row is the cork tiles that will cover most of the room. The rightmost rows (there are two although you can only see one directly) are ceramic tiles in front of the wood-burning stove. They match remarkably well considering they came from different stores and were chosen without direct comparison. Doors are off the cabinets to allow access.
N.B.: We've added a little area on the right, just under the weather widget, with links to local houses for sale. These are houses we know and would like to keep in the family, so to speak.
