Adventures and kitchen

We recently went with friends on another lovely evening walk in a nearby village. Our almost 7-kilometer trek was followed by a light dinner.

The first course advertised was mijo. Since mijoter is the word for how beans are cooked, simmered or slow-cooked, Kaye expected that this would be a dish of beans, since beans are a typical, easy way to feed a lot of people. It turns out that mijo (also mijhot) is a Charentaise speciality (or a Limousine speciality, then spelled miget or mighet). It's made with red wine, water, and a bit of sugar and served chilled over slices of dry bread (like onion soup). Better than it sounds, refreshing after a long walk.

Last fall we bought Groupon coupons for ultralight flights. The weather was so bad this spring that the guy offering them extended the availability through August, and we managed to have our flights just in time. Here's Kaye getting ready to go.

And here's a little clip of Kaye's flight just after takeoff.

Ed managed to take a picture of himself while flying:

Meanwhile, work in the kitchen continues apace. The pantry cabinets are back in place. Ed managed to get them on wheels so they could be moved without being completely emptied.

The peninsula is back in place, although its makeshift counter has a new join in it where it had to be cut in separating the parts of the counter. Most of the new floor is laid except for the pieces that require cutting around the edge.

Today Ed trimmed the outside doors so that they clear the new floor. so that it clears the new floor. Kaye's task for the day was moving the open shelving back into the kitchen and restocking it. It's looking like the worst bit of this project may be close to over! Knock wood.

The weather continues to be relatively cooperative so that we can eat our meals outside. The garden appreciated the bit of rain that we've had though.
