We're back from a week's visit to the Netherlands. We saw the graduation recital of a friend (neighbor in Oegstgeest) at the Royal Conservatory of Music in the Hague, shopped, and had some nice visits with friends. The trip home was 14 hours, long and tiring. Monday morning the weather turned cold all over Europe; there was snow on the ground in Amsterdam as we left. Temperatures hovered near 0C all day. After Rouen, it started raining and the rain quickly turned to snow. Salt trucks on the péage drove in formation across all lanes, causing long lines of trucks and cars to develop behind them.
When we finally arrived home, the temperature in the house was 8.5C (Celsius-challenged people can check here). We've been running the pellet-burning heater on high day and night to get the temperature back into a comfortable range.
There's been a bit of snow here, but it's largely all melted. From the forecast, it looks like it will be a week before we see the warm side of 0C, but we might get a bit of sun before it snows again.
Bad news! That damn Punxatawny Phil (or whatever they call that critter) saw his shadow today, so six more weeks of winter for you. :-D
