A bit quieter

So what's going on? Not much really. We've played boules, we've gone for a few walks, we're keeping the house going. Not much really.

Our barn-owning neighbor has been around more lately. This weekend we finally got to speak with her. It seems her artist daughter will indeed be coming to stay for a year, bringing her two kids, aged 13 and 9. That's why the house has been cleaned and repaired. We'll see how that goes.

The rooting marks in the South Forty and in neighboring properties seem to be made by boars. Ed heard them squealing and fighting one evening. They seem to be after walnuts and apples that have fallen to the ground. In the neighboring yard, they've been up to within less that 20 meters from our bedroom windows.

People tell us that the little holes that we've seen in the South Forty are made by voles. This has yet to be verified.

The potager has just about finished for the year. The zucchini may yield a few more in the next week, but not the bounty we had before. And the tomatoes are done, leaving the freezer well-stocked for the winter.

We're having summer weather again with highs around 30C (86F); it should get cooler again mid-week.
