Ed's small choir has been busy with performances. They did a church service for Toussaint (All Saint's Day, 1-November). There was a concert on Remembrance Sunday. They marched in to Pack up Your Troubles and out to Wish Me Luck. (Low lighting in the church.)
On Remembrance Day itself, we attended the ceremony in our commune, which was held earlier than normal, since there was a larger ceremony at our canton later. This year the list of the dead in World War I was read by children of the commune, which we thought very moving, who then sang the Marseillaise.
A few days before we had visited an exhibit at the library of WWI memorabilia, largely from one family who lost two brothers in the war and the third to tuberculosis that he caught in the trenches. (This man was the father of an ex-mayor of Mazerolles whom we met several times after we first moved here. His family is still active in the community. His grandaughter sings in Ed's choir.) It was especially moving to hear these names read.
Later in the day, we went to the joint remembrance ceremony in Montemboeuf. From the left, the flags represent military from Le Lindois, Montemboeuf, and Mazerolles. We think the flag on the right represented the Charente department. We heard that was an important French general, but never caught the name or further information.
After many phone calls, we see to have resolved our internet problems and our line seems relatively stable and maybe even a teeny bit faster.
We continue putting out hedgehog food, setting out two stations now, since we've seen more hedgehogs in the yard now.
Here's one of our azaleas which seems to be confused, blooming in October.
October was the fourth warmest October since 1900. The last day of October and the first of November were the warmest on record, with temperatures over 30C (86F) in some places. November is pretty normal temperature-wise, but seems to be drippier than it needs to be.
