Ed is progressing on the woodshed. The roof is on, the windows are in. It has proved more or less waterproof in the last days of rain. Next we need to finish the sides and we can move in our winter supply of wood and a palletful of wood pellets.
In other exciting news, our car passed its biannual inspection, and we passed two migrating storks wandering in a field as we were on our way to do our shopping.
Today is Remembrance Day (Veterans' Day in the USofA). As in communes all over France, we met at our mairie for a procession to the memorial at our local church. The names of Mazerolleans who died in WWI and WWII were read aloud. The mayor read a proclamation from the Minister of Defense. (We were expecting it to be by Hollande since last year's was by Sarkozy.)
Then we adjourned to the salle polyvalente for hot chocolate and cake, followed by pineau and cognac. After a brief return home for a dogwalk, we gathered for a meal at our local ferme-auberge (a farm that has a restuarant, usually open only on weekends, and possibly with rooms for guest). Another one of those all-afternoon meals, pineau with hors-d'ouerve, a plate with two pâtés and a bit of foie gras, a delicious soup, an entremet of sorbet, roasted duck and celeriac, creamed leeks, sautéed cabbage and bacon, then cheese with salad, and finally dessert. Whew.
Looks like the current rainy spell has let up and we're in for a few days of sunshine!
