August doldrums

The world's on holiday. Not us. But the heat has finally broken and we're having lovely, typical summer weather. And the last days have bought a bit of rain so perhaps the ground can start healing its cracks.

Ed's been working on the kitchen porch and it's now ready for re-roofing. A neighbor brought us a bowlful of plums and we now have more jam in the freezer.

We went to a nice concert in the church at nearby Ecuras, the first time we'd been there we think. A pretty little church that had not too good renovation at some point, there's bumpy stucco on the walls that's not very attractive. But the music was nice.

This afternoon we went to visit a local dairy. We saw upwards of 400 cows having their dinner:

before being milked, sixteen at a time:

The best part, though, was the Taxi de Lait that took milk to the young cows. They knew what was coming and crowded around the multi-nippled bucket even before the milk was pumped in.

Further, it's mostly been just the routine stuff around here. Pogo and Sophie have had their shots. (Oscar's on another schedule for these.) The frozen food folks have delivered, so the freezer is really stuffed.

  2. Tourpargel is a place that sells (and delivers) frozen food. They have lots of prepared stuff, but also meat, fish, veg. I got frozen fruit (mango slices, yay!) and some crèmes brulées that you just sprinkle on the sugar and pop under the broiler.
