Quieting down

After several busy weeks, things have been fairly quiet of late.

We had a scorcher of a day with a high about 42C/107F. Too hot, even for Ed. After that the weather cooled down. We've had a few days of normal hot, in the upper 20sC/upper 80sF, and a few days on the coolish side. Some raindrops have fallen, but nothing serious. The grass crunches when you walk on it and nothing much is growing.

The water shortage crisis continues. They are trucking water into at least one community to prevent problems with the chateau d'eau, the water tower. Every two weeks a new ruling is issued about the use of water. Our commune has restrictions on agricultural water use now, but so far no restrictions for personal use.

Kaye went back to Bordeaux again to visit to get a paper notarized at the consulate. This time she went on the train, a one-hour trip each way on the TGV. Bordeaux has a new, modern tram system, which is very quiet in comparison with the noisy trams of Amsterdam. Bordeaux seems like a nice place; it looks like a Big City, but doesn't have the traffic or pressure of people on the street. Looks like it will be worth a longer visit sometime.

On Saturday we went to a nearby vide grenier, flea market, bought a few flea bits, and had lunch. Monday was the 4th of July and we attended another quiz dinner. We came in a close third this time, but we aced the July-4th section.
