Last Saturday we went to a festival promoting Limousin cows in nearby Chabanais. Limousin cows, that are predominant in this area, are quite pretty, we think, as cows go. For the judging, which we missed, cow competed in categories divided by sex and age. The overall winner was a young female. The winners got plaques and the chance to be bought by area butchers. Their growers got loving cups, bottles of wine and pineau, and all sorts of gear and toys.
We were surprised to see that some of the bulls had rings in their noses.
For lunch, we stood in a short, but very slow, line to get some sandwiches. There were grilled sausages, plain, merquez, and andouillette, on offer, as well as crêpes (made on site) and beignets (not). Two sausages in a length of baguette, with a spread of mustard, made a tasty lunch for each of us.
